Any trip to Bali has to include shopping. There are storefronts and open air markets up and down the streets of Legian near Kuta Beach and Ubud as well as most tourist areas. Clothing abounds and prices can be very cheap, though we advise you to go deeply into the markets to the stalls in the center as they get less traffic and are more willing to bargain. I’m not much for bargaining agressively as I believe the merchants work hard for little profit. If I get what I think is too good a price, sometimes I’ll “tip” them to make sure they get what I consider a fair price.
One “theme” for locally made products seems to be fertility, exemplified by the robust inventory of items made in the shape of a gentlemans “manhood”. There’s no embarassment shown by the merchants in displaying huge bunches of penises, resembling hose seen on banana trees. You can’t help but be amused by the creativity shown in ways to decorate and utilize the shape and size of one of natures noble creations.
